0201 World Geography (1/2 Unit)*

World Geography, a required semester course, incorporates a physical and cultural approach to the study of world geography. Emphasis is placed on the study of locations, map interpretations and skills, and the many ways in which geography has influenced human development. (Prerequisite: Freshman Standing)

0202 United States Government (1/2 Unit)*

United States Government, a required semester course, includes the study of federal, state, and local governments. Constitutional rights, political institutions, citizen involvement, voter participation, and elements of democracy are stressed. Tests on the United States Constitution and the Missouri Constitution are given in this course. To be eligible for graduation, a student must pass tests on both the United States and Missouri Constitutions. (Prerequisite: Freshman Standing)

0203 World History (1 Unit)

World History, a year long required course, is a survey of the modern era from the Renaissance to the present day. This course focuses on the Renaissance, Reformation, exploration, absolutism, nationalism, industrialization, the world in crisis, post war, struggles for democracy, and the contemporary world. Emphasis is placed on social, cultural, and economic history as well as political history. (Prerequisite: Sophomore Standing)

0204 United States History (1 Unit)

United States History is a required full year course. This course emphasizes government, cultural diversity, economics, and geography. A balanced presentation of history is presented from Reconstruction to the present. (Prerequisite: Junior Standing)

0209 Sociology (1/2 Unit)*/**

Sociology, a semester elective course, is designed for sophomores, juniors, or seniors. This course allows students to become aware of their culture and their roles in society. The topics covered include sociological concepts, primary relationships, group interaction, and cultural comparisons. The course provides a solid foundation of concepts through basic research and knowledge of important societal issues. (Prerequisite: Sophomore Standing)

0210 Social Problems (1/2 Unit)*/**

Social Problems, a junior level semester elective course, provides the opportunity for students to study the problems and explore the possible solutions to the problems. Topics covered include: deviant behavior, suicide, child abuse, rape, and over population. (Prerequisite: Sociology and Junior Standing)

0217 General Psychology (1/2 Unit)*

General Psychology, a semester elective course is a survey of psychology. Units studied include emotions, state of consciousness, stress management, self-awareness, abnormal behavior, and the brain. Many activities are done in class. A research project is required. Upon completion of this course the student will have a better understanding of himself/herself and others. (Prerequisite: Junior Standing.)

0218 Introductory Psychology (1/2 Unit)*/**/cc

Introductory Psychology, a semester elective course is an in-depth study of psychology. Topics studied include the brain, intelligence, states of consciousness, stress management, self- awareness, abnormal behavior, and developmental psychology. Research and a research report is required. (Prerequisite: Junior Standing)

0219 Western Civilization (1 Unit)*/**/cc

Western Civilization, a yearlong elective course, is a comprehensive treatment of Western History from ancient times through the twentieth century. The focus is on the political, economic and cultural history of Western Civilizations in order to examine the impact of past events on the present and future. (Prerequisite: Senior Standing and Teacher Recommendation)

0220 United States Foreign Policy (1/2 Unit)*/**/cc

United States Foreign Policy, a semester course, focuses on the policies through which the United States attempts to maintain satisfactory economic, political, and social relationships with other countries. Global interdependence is stressed. (Prerequisite: United States History, Senior Standing and Teacher Recommendation)

0224 Contemporary Issues (1/2 Unit)*/**

Contemporary Issues, a semester elective course, analyzes contemporary events and actions of individuals, groups, and governments. The course is designed to enhance the quality of civic and cultural life of students by expanding the opportunities to discuss current issues. By providing useful interactive experiences students become informed citizens. (Prerequisite: Junior Standing)

0226 Constitutional Law (1/2 Unit)*/**

Constitutional Law, a semester course, is designed for juniors and seniors who have successfully passed freshman United States Government and is designed to provide students an opportunity to engage in an in-depth study of the American system of justice. The purpose and functions of both trial and appellate courts is examined with special consideration being given to the United States Supreme Court and its role in defining the rights guaranteed in the United States Constitution. (Prerequisite: Successful Completion of United States Government and Junior Standing)
