CLASS RANKINGS
(Fort Zumwalt Senior High Schools)
In the interest of encouraging and recognizing outstanding academic achievement, a valedictorian, salutatorian and the top ten academic honor students will be selected for each high school graduating class. These academic honor students will be selected according to the following procedure:
- The valedictorian will be the student with the highest class rank as computed at the end of eight semesters of high school work.
- The salutatorian will be the student with the second highest class rank as computed at the end of eight semesters of high school work.
- In case of a tie for valedictorian, co-valedictorians will be honored.
- In case of a tie for salutatorian, co-salutatorians will be honored.
- To compute class rank, all courses from an accredited school will be considered. Class rank will be computed based on students earning a maximum of 6 credits per year and a total of 24 credits by the end of their Senior year. Correspondence courses, summer school courses and zero hour* courses will not be computed in determining class rank. Freshman or sophomore transfer student weighted grade classes will not be calculated as weighted grades, as Fort Zumwalt freshman and sophomores may not earn weighted grades.
- To be eligible for valedictorian or salutatorian honors, a student must be enrolled continuously within the school district during his/her junior and senior year.
- Top academic honor students will be identified based on class rank, using the same method as described in #5.
* If a weighted course is taken during zero hour, that weighted grade will be used in determining class rank and a non-weighted course will be dropped (maximum 6 credits per year).
Grade point average (GPA), a separate calculation, will be determined by overall grades multiplied times their value (A=4, B=3, C-2, D=1, F=0) divided by the number of credits earned. GPA will be reported on the report card and transcripts.
