From the Principal’s Desk
Dear Parent,
On behalf of the staff at West Middle School, welcome to our web page. The accomplishments of our staff and students are a great source of pride for me, as we work diligently to educate students. At West Middle School we provide students with many exciting opportunities for growth. We offer a variety of clubs and organizations, as well as a comprehensive intramural program.
Middle School can be a challenging time as students experience numerous physical, social and emotional changes. We realize that these changes can be difficult for everyone; however, our dedicated team of professionals will use our expertise to make this adjustment as smooth as possible.
We truly want to be partners in education with you. To that end, do not hesitate to contact us at any time.
Partners in Education,
Lori A. Jessen, Principal
The mission of the Fort Zumwalt School District is to assure that its students, regardless of ability or economic level, are provided an education in such a positive and safe learning environment that all reach their potential. A strong commitment is made to promote the virtues of democracy, citizenship, self-discipline, the work ethic and the need to respect all members of society.
About West Middle School
Located in the southwest quadrant of the Fort Zumwalt School District, our
school, founded in 2001, is already rich in tradition. Home to 1,267 students,
West Middle continues to grow. We are beginning our final phase of construction,
as our classroom additions to the third story and sixth grade wings will begin
this year. Plans to complete this project are in place for the 2007-2008 school
year.
Fifty-nine percent of our students have earned honor roll recognition. Seventy-one
students were inducted into the National Junior Honor Society in the spring
of 2005. Striving to continue their own educational goals, 68% of our professional
staff have earned a Masters Degree or better.
In conjunction with the Missouri Conservation Department our Outdoor Classroom was recognized as one of the Missouri Conservation Heritage Foundation Honorees at the middle school level!
We are proud to be the Home of the Wildcats, sporting the colors of antique
gold and navy blue. And as always, West Middle is “a community where students
and teachers are committed to educational excellence.”
