Library Media Specialist

Mission Statement

The mission of the Library Media Center is to assist students in becoming independent, lifelong learners. Instruction is provided to ensure all students are effective users of information and technology. Emphasis is placed on creating and fostering a love for reading.

General Library Information

With a collection of over 16,000 items, our library is a busy place. Students can explore the world of information through books, magazines, videos, the internet, and more. Classes in grades one through five have a scheduled 25 minute library class each week. During class time students return and check out materials and learn valuable library skills. Children may return their books and choose others during our "extra check out" times.

Research and Technology

Classes have access to the LMC for research projects and reports. Computers are available for both catalog and internet searches providing teachers and students with a diverse selection of educational materials. Student research projects are often carried over and completed in our newly upgraded computer lab.  Visit our web site at tcelibrary.com

Reading Counts

The Reading Counts Program is an integral part of the TCE reading program. Students earn points by reading and testing on selected books. The LMC processes and catalogs reading counts materials making student book choices easier.

The Birthday Book Club

To help build our collection, Twin Chimneys families are invited to purchase a book in honor of their children's birthdays. A nameplate is placed inside the front cover, the child's picture is taken and displayed, and of course he/she is the first to check out the book!

Book Fairs

Each year during the month of November, the PTO hosts a Scholastic Book Fair. Students enjoy the opportunity to browse new and old releases, discover new authors, and purchase their favorites. Thank you to all parents, students, and teachers for supporting the book fairs. Profits from the book fairs are used to purchase new library materials.
