A Message from the Principal

Dear Parents, Students, and Community Members,

Welcome to Twin Chimneys Elementary School's web page! It contains a wealth of important information about our school and its many activities.

Here at the home of the "Pioneers", we are truly committed to establishing a lifelong learning community. As we work together to meet the needs of students, we also strive to improve ourselves by committing to be students. The staff here is blessed with a wealth of experience, enthusiasm, and knowledge. We have staff and parent expertise in areas ranging from physiology to technology. Teachers collaborate to learn from one another, to problem-solve by using action research, and to dialog about best practices in teaching. Staff members read and research the latest materials in brain research, reading and writing strategies, and tools to meet the needs of varied learning styles. Teachers share what they are learning through advanced coursework with other educators at faculty meetings. In addition, educators are encouraged to share their thoughts on the teaching and learning through reflective journaling on a regular basis.

Twin Chimneys Elementary School thrives due to its commitment to learning demonstrated by students, teachers, administrators, support staff, parents and other community members. The pleasure of learning is one of the greatest gifts that we can give our children, and it is most effectively taught through modeling. Continue to take the time to inspire your child by discovering something new - whether it be through reading a book, writing in a journal, discussions with friends and colleagues, or improving your skills in something you love. Together, we can inspire a whole new generation to rediscover the joy, the challenge, and the excitement of learning.

Please feel free to contact me at the number above if you ever have any questions or concerns.

Dr. Denise Risner
Principal

BOOK FAIR

According to the experts, reading daily is the best way to improve a child's school (Reading) performance. Each year the Twin Chimneys PTO sponsors a book fair in conjunction with the school-wide Youn Authors' Fair. This year, the fairs will be held during Parent/Teacher Conferences. Help improve your child's reading ability and help the school at the same time by joining us in the library during the following schedule:

PHYSICAL EDUCATION CLASSES
Kyle Salvo, Instructor.......Julie Buchheit, Instructor

PE/Health is the primary area concerned with developing and maintaining students' optimal health, fitness, physical skills, and safety. We teach Health concepts that promote an active healthy balance between leisure and work.

On the elementary level we emphasize the following:

MONTHLY FITNESS WALK/RUN

Students can walk/run/skip around the playground for 20 minutes. They are given 1 tongue depressor for each lap completed. A record is kept to help show their progress.

NATIONAL FITNESS MONTH

During May we recognize NATIONAL FITNESS MONTH. One week in May is selected and the whole school starts the day exercising in their rooms for 5 minutes. Fourth and Fifth Grade students lead each classroom in an exercise routine while music is broadcast on the intercom. In May, our PTO is planning a community 5K Walk/Run! Watch for more details to come.

FIELD DAY

A FIELD DAY is held during the last week of school. Traditionally, this day is a good combination of fun, fresh air, and physical exercise.

PRESIDENTIAL FITNESS AWARDS

Students take fitness tests throughout the year. The results of these tests can qualify individuals for any one of a variety of awards.
