FROM THE PRINCIPAL'S DESK

Dear Parent/Guardian,

On behalf of the Faculty, Staff, and Administration, I would like to welcome you to South Middle School's Web Page. We are extremely proud of our school and its students' accomplishments. South Middle is a school that provides students with a number of challenging and exciting new opportunities to grow. During the "middle years" adolescents undergo rapid physical growth, changes in moral reasoning, the onset of abstract thinking, and introduction to a range of social pressures. It is a time of immense change for the students. We realize that this transition can be frightening for everyone; but rest assured that our school personnel will be prepared to dedicate all of our knowledge, experience, and expertise to make this adjustment as smooth as possible. We pledge to work closely with you and your child to ensure a meaningful and productive middle school experience.

Together, we can make a difference.

Sincerely,
Paul Myers
Principal

MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Fort Zumwalt School District is to assure that its students, regardless of ability or economic level, are provided an education in such a positive and safe learning environment that all reach their potential. A strong commitment is made to promote the virtues of democracy, citizenship, self-discipline, the work ethic and the need to respect all members of society.

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

Ft. Zumwalt South Middle School was built in 1977. It is located in the South Central section of the Ft. Zumwalt School District. During the 1989-90 school year, the mascot officially became the "Mustangs". "A Tradition of Excellence" is our school motto. The staff and faculty strive to make this statement ring true each and every school day. Educating an adolescent student takes teamwork and commitment between parents and the school. The staff of Ft. Zumwalt South Middle School welcomes this opportunity to work with each of our parents in a collaborative effort to meet the unique needs of the students.

All teachers must base grades on the following percentages of the total points possible. This will ensure consistency from teacher to teacher and building to building.
