A Message from the Principal

Welcome to the Cindy Ostmann Elementary School web page. I hope that as you explore our site, you find it to be informative and helpful.

This is the seventh year for Ostmann Elementary, and we are excited to be able to provide an environment where all patrons are encouraged to "Explore the Spirit of Learning". As we continue on this journey it is important that we unite behind this common mission and provide the best possible education to all who enter our school.

This goal can be accomplished by keeping student social and academic growth as the first and foremost priority. In order to do this, we have assembled a top quality staff of child-centered, dedicated professionals. They are committed to making each child's elementary years a productive experience that instills a positive attitude toward lifelong learning.

As "Explorers" we look forward to your support and partnership as we develop a culture of excellence in education. If during the course of the year you have questions or suggestions, please feel free to contact the appropriate staff member and allow us the opportunity to serve you.

Yours in Education,
Gregg S. Sartorius, Ed.D.
Principal

School Philosophy

To Develop an Atmosphere Where:

  1. Character education is woven into the fabric of school life in a planned, proactive way.
  2. Decisions are made based on what is best for students.
  3. Expectations are high in terms of learning, behavior, and growth for students, staff, and parents.
  4. Student growth and progress are consistently monitored, and instructional plans and techniques are constantly being revised and modified to meet individual student needs.
  5. Academics, creativity, and physical fitness will coexist, thus providing students with a quality educational foundation.
  6. The dignity of individuals is held paramount by making it safe to take risks, safe to be wrong, safe to be different, safe to disagree, and safe to make a mistake.
  7. All members of the school community will explore and strive for excellence in the education of all of its members.

Welcome to the Library/Media Center

Julie Birke
Librarian

Pam Toben
Library Clerk

The Ostmann Elementary School Library/Media Center is dedicated to providing students, teachers, and Ostmann School families with skillfully selected and managed resources. The library /media center supports developing curricula, technology and literature appreciation.

Students have scheduled visits to the library each week where they learn information literacy skills, study a variety of fiction and nonfiction genres, or experience story time. Students also have the opportunity to select a book or two from a variety of the best in children's literature. In addition, magazines, newspapers and the Internet are also accessible. Students and teachers are encouraged to visit the library as often as they wish for extra checkout, research, or to visit our quiet reading area.

Ostmann Elementary participates in the Reading Counts program to enhance student achievement. Many books in the library are labeled as Reading Counts books. Students may read the selected material and take a comprehensive quiz in their classroom or in the library. A list of quizzes may be found in your child's classroom and at the local public library. Quiz lists will be updated as more quizzes are purchased.

Although Ostmann Library/Media Center has many books available, there is plenty of room for the collection to grow. The "Explorer's Book Club" is a way families can help. A book may be donated to the library in honor of someone's birthday or special achievement. Please stop by and see us.
