I pledge to myself, my family, my school,
and my teachers:
To be the very best I can be.
I will respect others and myself. I will use self-control.
I will act in a safe and responsible way.
I will do my personal best.
I will do my part so everyone can learn!
Our goal is to provide the best possible educational opportunities for our students, develop life-long learners, and prepare them to be successful citizens in a changing world.
1. Provide all students with learning opportunities that will prepare them to be successful citizens in our world.
2. Provide a safe and nurturing learning environment where students gain skills and knowledge to succeed.
3. Build a strong and positive partnership between school, home, and the community.
On behalf of the faculty and staff, I would like to welcome you to the Lewis
and Clark Elementary School website. The Lewis and Clark Trailblazers were established
in 1966. Since then, three building additions have been constructed, that currently
house over 440 third, fourth and fifth graders.
The students at Lewis and Clark Elementary have the opportunity to participate
in a wide-range of extracurricular activities. Before and after school programs
and clubs, school-wide service projects, assemblies, and special activities
provide students with valuable learning opportunities outside of the classroom
to help them grow and feel successful in the school setting. Our school programs
focus on providing students with experiences and challenges to help them grow
both academically and socially.
Our school goals focus on providing a journey of exciting educational opportunities
for our students, develop life-long learners, and prepare them to be successful
citizens in a changing world. As a staff, we strive to insure that all children
have the opportunity to reach high standards of success. We have created a learning
environment that will encourage active learning, positive social interactions,
and self motivation, with the utmost emphasis on a happy, safe, and nurturing
atmosphere.
I would like to extend an invitation to all parents to become actively involved
in your child’s education by attending school activities, programs, field
trips, helping in the classrooms, volunteering on the playground, in the cafeteria,
supporting our PTC sponsored events, fundraisers, or just visiting anytime.
We appreciate the ongoing support and involvement you have in your child’s
education.
As parents and guardians, you are the first and most important educator in your
child’s life. Your children bring life to our building each day, ready
to participate with excitement and eagerness. It is a privilege and honor to
have this opportunity to be a partner in the education of your children. Working
together we are making a difference with our students. If I can be of any assistance,
please feel free to contact me at 636-397-3111.

Dear Lewis & Clark Families,
Welcome to Lewis and Clark Elementary. The Lewis and Clark PTC work very hard for our children. The PTC is continually making improvements that will enhance and enrich our children’s learning at Lewis and Clark Elementary. We are able to have this happen because of the great parent support at our various family functions and events.
There are many exciting activities and events planned throughout the year and our goal is to have all parents involved. The funds raised from fundraising events held throughout the year goes right back into Lewis and Clark Elementary student activities, teacher and classroom support. Through the efforts and support of parents, families, community and teachers the learning experience of our children is greatly enhanced. Assemblies, classroom equipment, software for computers, reading counts, 5th grade camp materials, club activities, reading program incentives, and special events are just a few of the items that the PTC budget provides to Lewis and Clark Elementary. Our school will continue to participate in the “Box Tops for Education” program this year. Please save your box tops and send them to us when it is convenient for you. We appreciate your continued support of our many programs and school events.
We need everyone to help us make this another successful year for children. Even if you are unable to help at an event there are many other ways to help support your child’s school. Throughout the school year volunteers are used to assist in the office, classroom, and library, cafeteria, on the playground and in the computer lab. If you are interested in helping at Lewis and Clark, send a note to school with your name, telephone number and days/dates you are available. We also recycle paper items, newspapers, magazines, and boxes. Proceeds made from recycling help the school as well. Please feel free to dump your paper recycling in the dumpster beside the school. This is another great way to help. Working together, we can accomplish many wonderful things!
Another goal of the PTC is to get families involved. We always need new people
with new ideas. We encourage and welcome new membership. Our monthly meetings
are scheduled for the first Thursday of the month. All meetings begin at 6:00
p.m. in the LCE conference room. Please come and join in the fun at our next
meeting, or be a part of the many activities and school events. We all have
the future of our children as a common interest. Thank you for your continued
support and hard work!
Sincerely,
PTC Board Members
SCHOOL HOURS
Office Hours 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
3rd, 4th and 5th Grade 9:10 a.m. - 3:40 p.m.* School opens at 8:55 for students eating breakfast.
* All other students are encouraged to arrive at school by 9:00 a.m. and no later than 9:10 a.m. Students are not to arrive earlier than 8:55 a.m. as proper supervision is not available before this time, (unless attending a club or before school activity).
* Dismissal procedures begin with walkers, bikers, car riders, and latch key at 3:40 p.m. Bus riders are dismissed next by grade level to load buses. Buses will pull away from the building at approximately 3:55 p.m.
BUS TRANSPORTATIONBus transportation is provided to every child who lives one or more miles from school. All bus changes must be requested through the Director of Transportation, Mr. Tom Berry, at 240-3138. We will be notified of changes from his office if approved.
Bus routes for the new school year will be mailed to the home of each eligible bus rider in August. Bus changes do not carry over from one school year to the next. Transportation at the start of the school year is set up to and from home. If your child needs to be picked up and returned to a babysitter or daycare, please call the office of the Director of Transportation at (636) 240-3138 so your child may be assigned to the correct bus.
Breakfast and lunch are served each school day. If your child will participate on a regular or occasional basis, we ask you to use available meal envelopes (or a blank envelope with your child’s name, teacher’s name, and “lunch money” written on it) to send in cash or checks (made payable to Lewis and Clark Elementary). Every child has a lunch card that is scanned when a meal or drink is purchased. The appropriate amount is then deducted from your child’s account. Every Tuesday and Thursday we notify families when their child's account is $5.00 or less. A printout of all transactions for your child may be requested at any time.
Free and reduced-price lunch forms are available in the school office. If you feel your family may qualify, please request a form from the cafeteria clerk. Such information is kept strictly confidential.
For safety throughout our school, no matter what the reason for your visit, please stop by the office first to pick up a visitor or volunteer tag that must be worn while you are at school. If you would like to visit the classroom, please speak with your child's teacher prior to your visit. Conferences should always be scheduled ahead rather than trying to talk with the teacher when he/she has class. This will help preserve instructional time.
We welcome volunteers! Research has proven the more involved and active parents are in their child's education, the more likely children will reach their full potential. School volunteers are always appreciated. Teachers often seek and utilize parent volunteers. It is Fort Zumwalt School District's policy to require background checks on all parent volunteers. If you plan to volunteer during the school year, please see our office for the necessary forms. Background checks need to be completed before volunteering. Please be sure to allow enough time to complete the forms, turn them in, and have the check completed prior to the dates to volunteer.
The physical education focus is on the development and maintenance of student's optimal health through fitness. The curriculum promotes a balance of leisure, sport and work in the students' lives.
Each year fourth grade students participate in a "jump-a-thon" to raise money for the American Heart Association. Students gain the benefits of jumping rope, in addition to learning the significance of American Heart Association.
Did you know you can find adventure, fantasy, mystery, world records, fast cars, huge dinosaurs, and wild animals in the library? The library is an exciting place where students and staff can use books to open their minds to the world of knowledge.
The goal of the library is to help students develop a love of reading. Students attend weekly library classes where the check-out books and learn through library skill lessonhs. Students may also exchange books during extra check-out times, each day.
At Lewis & Clark we encourage students and teachers to use the library for research. Teachers and students accomplish this goal through books, reference materials, computers, mulit-media carts, and the Internet.
