A Message from the Principal

Welcome to the Russell H. Emge web site! I invite you to learn more about our wonderful school through the content of our site. The 2007-2008 school year marks our sixth year at Emge. We have started a wonderful tradition at Emge of providing an extremely child-centered education for all of our students and I have no doubt this tradition will continue.

The staff selected to work with the students at Emge are all child-centered individuals. Each staff member has unique qualities that will bring out the best from each student. There is a commitment from every staff member to make Emge the best place for our students. Our goal as an Inviting School Award winner is to ensure high student achievement in a warm, caring environment. I hope that you would find each staff member easy to communicate with – if you ever have a question, I encourage you to call the teacher or write him or her a note. They will answer your question in a prompt, courteous manner. We truly have the best faculty and staff at Emge!

I would also like to recognize the Emge PTO. The leadership and cooperation from our parents is truly remarkable. This year, the PTO is continuing to support Emge in many areas across our school. We are extremely fortunate to have such a supportive group of parents working with our staff to enhance the education our students.

Thanks again for visiting our web site. I would like to invite you to email me (atripamer@fz.k12.mo.us), call me, or visit our school whenever you have the opportunity. I am confident you will find Emge to be a very special place for kids!

Sincerely,

Alex J. Tripamer
Principal

Who Was Russell Emge?

The school is named in honor of Russell H. Emge, a community and civic leader of O'Fallon, Missouri. A framed portrait of Mr. Emge is located in the main foyer of the school. Mr. Emge was a strong supporter of the Fort Zumwalt School District and led many efforts within the community to assist the district with bond issues and other growth-related issues. In many ways, Mr. Emge could be best described as a dedicated friend of the Fort Zumwalt School District. Among his interests in the school district, Mr. Emge was involved in the following civic activities:

As you can see, it is very important that the school be named for such a civic-minded individual as Mr. Emge. This honor gives testament to his total dedication to the O'Fallon community.

A Message from the PTO

PTO OFFICERS
2007-2008

Join the PTO and assist with the many student-centered activities that they plan and coordinate. Membership is $5.00 per family.

Opportunities for Parents

Tutoring

Volunteers are always welcome to assist with tutoring. Teachers frequently utilize parents and grandparents to assist with individual and small group reinforcement and special projects. If you would like to volunteer to be a tutor, contact the school office.

Assist with Special Events

The Emge PTO sponsors a number of special events. Parents help with preparation and supervision with most of these. Some of the activities are listed below:

Fund Raising

The PTO conducts a fund raising campaign each year. Parents are needed to assist with counting money, doing paperwork, making phone calls, etc. Likewise, the PTO sponsors the Camp Candy Sale for fourth graders trying to earn their way to camp each spring. It takes many workers to conduct these fund raisers successfully, but without them our school would not be able to provide the many special opportunities for recognition and encouragement that Emge kids enjoy.

There is always something happening at Emge!
Come Join Us!

Physical Education Classes

The physical education program is focused on the development and maintenance of optimal health through fitness. The curriculum promotes a balance of leisure, sport, and work in the lives of our students.

Units of Emphasis

Third Grade Physical Education Program

Third Grade students present a Physical Education Program at a PTO meeting. Students perform a variety of social dances and routines at the program.

Fitness Testing

Each year our students (Grade 2-5) participate in the Fort Zumwalt Physical Fitness Test. Students are recognized for their excellence in this area at the Awards Day in the spring of each year.

Welcome to the Library/Media Center

Kathi Strunk
Librarian

Chris Mueller
Library Clerk

The Emge library is the center from which the Emge Stars shine. It is a place where students, teachers, and Emge families come to enjoy all that reading has to offer.

Our collection offers the best in children's literature in both fiction and nonfiction genres. In addition to books, students will have access to a variety of magazines, newspapers, and the Internet. Students will come to the library once each week for a scheduled class visit in which they will learn library skills and study many different elements of books and stories. Story time will be a regular feature for all children who visit the library.

Students are encouraged to visit the library as often as they wish between classes to check out and renew books, do independent or class research, or even read the local paper to see what's going on in our community.
